TRA published a new type approval regulation 2024

 
 
On July 17, 2024, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) published a new type approval regulation, the regulation come into force on August 17, 2024. The main changes are the certificate will 4-year validity instead of lifetime validity, and the authority also updated the required label and added their logo and QR section.
 
Below are the main points based on the regulation and confirmation from the authority for your reference.
 
1. In (Article (3)): This decision shall be published in the Official Gazette and will be mandatory after thirty (30) days from the date of its publication.
 
2. In (Article (18)): The authority will issue the type approval certificate with 4 years validity. The same period shall also apply to the certificate of approval issued previously, and its duration begins from the date of its issuance.
 
3. The local importer or local company is required to apply for type approval directly to authority’s online system, but No one could issue NoC letters to other local companies to use type approval certificate anymore. Each local importer or local company should apply for their own certificate. The foreign manufacturer with local branch office could apply for type approval and issue NoC letter to other local companies to use type approval certificate.
 
4. The required label format has been changed as below (TRA logo & QR code) are new additions, the QR code will be provided by the authority for each model. The E-labeling is acceptable for the devices that support that.
 
 
 
5. The devices that are pre-equipped in imported vehicles such as (wireless power chargers, remote keyless, car audio, ECU, TPMS... etc.) are exempted from the labeling requirements.
 
 
6.Systems and interface cards that have already been installed in data center cabins before being imported into Oman are exempted from the labeling requirements.
