The Lao Authority MTC (The Office of the Ministry of Technology and Communications) recently enforced Agreement No. 3583/KTS about “Management and Importation of Telecommunications and ICT Equipment (ICT).”
According to Agreement No. 3583, Telecommunications and ICT Equipment (ICT) are categorized into 2 types requiring different conformity assessment procedures:
1)Type 1 equipment: e.g., General mobile communication equipment, Radio and TVcommunication equipment.
-Type Approval Certificate (TAC) and Acknowledge letter of Declaration of Conformity(DoC) are required.
2)Type 2 equipment: e.g., SRD products.
-Acknowledge letter of Declaration of Conformity (DoC) is required.
Below are the main changes after the enforcement of Agreement No. 3583:
1.The validity of the Type Approval Certificate (TAC) and Acknowledge letter of
Declaration of Conformity (DoC) are changed to 3 years.
2.More application documents and information are needed.
3.TAC holder can be a foreign manufacturer or a local company.
DoC holder should be a local company.
4.Labelling Regulations may be published later.According to the oral confirmation by
the authority, the old certificate can be still used until its expiry date.
